A $200 iPhone mini?

Small iPhone

Steve Job’s crew at Apple are reportedly back at their secret lab working at a new smaller, cheaper iphone to compete with Google’s Android platform.

A person who said he has seen a prototype told Bloomberg that Apple is preparing a mini version of the existing iPhone but said they haven’t seen the device since last year. The Bloomberg source also claims that the device will cost around $200 to purchase without a contract.

This new development means Apple would be looking to compete against the likes of the HTC Wildfire in the global mid-level mobile phone market, largely dominated by HTC, LG, Samsung and Nokia.

According to the report, Apple is aiming to unveil the smaller incarnation of the iPhone near the middle of this year. But before we all get excited they also said that there is a very good possibility that these plans have been delayed or even scrapped.

We’ll just have to wait and see…

Volkswagen’s Fun Theory

Filmore Things We Love

The Fun Theory: The theory that fun can change behavior for the better.

Really, what can I say about this video that isn’t abundantly apparent? What’s not to love about this fun-filled campaign? I’ve always believed that a little bit of fun can change the world. As humans we can’t help but be moved by positive activities and the impulses that bring entertainment and amusement. As this socially savvy ad by Volkswagen cleverly displays, fun is enough of an incentive to change the way we act and respond.

The fact that the ad has nothing in particular to do with Volkswagen is irrelevant. Just knowing that the fun theory is a Volkswagen initiative is enough. This campaign tells us that Volkswagen is a socially conscious, forward thinking company that best of all, can appreciate the value of a little fun.

How refreshing, how heineken

I Love Heineken Things We Love

How refreshing, how Heineken is one of my all time favourite ad campaigns. This ad in particular has, in my opinion all the elements of a brilliant advert – it grabs attention, holds interest, is culturally relevant and appeals directly to the target market.

The result – a clever message wrapped up in British tongue-in-cheek humour with a great punchline, finishing up with a memorable campaign slogan that ties it all together.

If I ever get an iPhone (and like it) I’ll eat my hat…

I Love My iPhone

I Love My iPhone

I got my iPhone six months ago. Finally succumbing to peer pressure I reluctantly walked into the O2 shop – feeling guilty every step of the way.

Until then I declined to buy in, mainly due to my naturally rebellious streak refusing to be a sheep and follow the trends and at the same time making a one woman protest against Apple’s DRM policy.

I have to admit, the minute I got my hands on my iPhone, I loved it. Much like the times when my baby boys were handed all snuffling and shiny to me, brand new and fresh from the womb, it really was love at first touch.

Now six months later, I have forgotten my fierce ‘forever’ loyalty to Sony Ericsson (hey you left me Sony, Windows Mobile was a deal breaker) and have sold my soul to Apple.

Consider the proverbial hat eaten. With gusto.

So what is it about this phone that has stolen my heart? Is it the seamless surfing making it easier to plough through endless blogs and articles without straining my pc weary eyes? Is it the continuous availability of productivity enhancing apps that save me hours of time to spend searching for and playing with more apps. Or is it just that – let’s face it the iPhone is the coolest, sleekest thing since sliced bread?

I can’t pinpoint which if these ‘changed my life’ but what I do know is that I no longer use my desktop for recreation, reading news, surfing or social networking. I hardly ever use my TV for viewing the few programmes that I like to watch.

In six short months, the iPhone has changed the way I work, communicate with friends, connect with the world and the way I relax. In a nutshell, it makes me more creative and more productive – which essentially is what technology is all about.
